Ground to Grid

Strategically Positioned for Global Growth

Canadian ownership, proven technology, and ground-to-grid nuclear capability, ensure long-term energy security, jobs and economic benefits accrue to Canadians.

With the world’s richest uranium reserves, a mature nuclear fuel processing industry and now, the world’s only proven Gen III+ reactor, the AP1000, Canada is uniquely poised to bring the benefits of modern nuclear technology home to Canada and beyond.

Delivering Value Throughout the Nuclear Fuel Cycle

Ground to Grid — Nuclear Fuel Cycle

Cameco Corporation

Uncovering Clean Energy in the Ground

Cameco is more than a mining company—headquartered in Saskatoon, we are a global nuclear energy leader. Utilities around the world rely on Cameco to provide secure nuclear fuel solutions for the generation of safe, reliable, carbon-free nuclear power.

With operations and investments across the nuclear fuel and reactor life cycles, Cameco plays a vital role in reliably delivering secure nuclear energy.

Cameco was created in 1988 by the merger of two Crown corporations—Saskatchewan Mining Development Corporation and Eldorado Nuclear Limited.

Since then, we've seen tremendous success: Cameco now boasts the world's highest-grade uranium mine, largest high-grade uranium mine, largest commercial refinery and we hold the world record in uranium mill production. Our strategic investments have expanded Cameco's roles within the nuclear fuel cycle.

Cameco also believes in being a responsible corporate citizen and making a difference in the communities near our operations, so we've made several commitments to sustainability:

  • Integrate sustainability principles into strategy and operations;
  • Support decarbonization through clean nuclear energy;
  • Be active in Indigenous partnerships and community development; and,
  • Support the goal to triple global nuclear power capacity by 2050.

"Our quality of life requires 24/7 dispatchable energy, and nuclear power can provide that, conflict and geopolitical changes are forcing countries to re-examine their energy mix and their dependence on nations prone to instability for critical supplies.

I firmly believe that nuclear power can support Canada's energy security and decarbonization goals. Cameco, with our operations and investments across the nuclear fuel and reactor life cycles, is well-positioned to support those goals both at home and globally."

Westinghouse Electric Company

Transmitting Clean Energy to the Grid

Fueled by a growing team of more than 200 experts across Canada, Westinghouse Canada is dedicated to delivering innovative nuclear energy solutions by leveraging experience, global insights, collaborative mindset and the best-in-class technology of the modern AP1000 Gen III+ reactor to accelerate Canada's energy sustainability and achieve its net-zero goals.

Providing fuel, services, technology, plant design and equipment for utility and industrial customers in the commercial nuclear electric power industry, Westinghouse applies decades of global operational expertise to ensure that nuclear technology will help provide future generations with safe, clean and reliable electricity.

More than 60 years after the first Westinghouse commercial pressurized water reactor came online in Shippingport, Pennsylvania in 1957, 430 nuclear reactors operating around the world are using Westinghouse technology.

With offices across Canada and more than 50 locations throughout the United States, Europe and Asia, Westinghouse commits to local presence. The Canadian Engineering Hub in Kitchener is a state-of-the-art facility, purpose-built to service projects in Canada and around the globe. The Canadian supply chain is being expanded for future domestic and global projects.

Westinghouse is committed to advancing the global net-zero transition while addressing the world's energy security needs. Their work is driven by the principles of protecting the environment and providing energy security, embedding sustainability throughout its business, and investing in employees and communities across the globe through corporate governance.

"Canada has been in the business of being a tier-one nuclear nation for many decades now. We've taken some very bold decisions in terms of the announcement of new builds; being the first country in the western world to look at deploying a small, modular reactor.

Canada has the whole package; it's got the reputation; it's got the first-movers' advantage. The AP1000 is going to demonstrate a lot of benefits for all of the markets that it's in. We can deliver on time in a very de-risked way. The AP1000 is the best solution for Canada right now because our demands are pressing.

This is Canada's moment."
